Manchester United 1-2 Fulham - the look back
Fulham pick up their first Old Trafford win since 2003 in dramatic fashion as Iwobi nets at the death.
Petition to rename added time as “Iwobi time”.
Alex Iwobi scored the latest winning goal by a visiting team ever at Old Trafford on Saturday, as the Whites bagged their first victory at the stadium since 2003.
Marco rang the changes from the side that fell to Aston Villa last Saturday, bringing Harrison Reed and Sasa Lukic into the middle to cope with the loss of the suspended Palhinha. Lukic in particular had a fantastic game.
Another key move was the return of Nigerian duo Calvin Bassey and Iwobi to the starting XI. The former put us ahead just after the hour mark, rifling home with his unfavoured right foot from a corner. It was completely deserved after a dominant first half.
Harry Maguire equalised for United with just one minute of regular time to play, and we felt like we’d all seen this one before. But the boys weren’t going to have it. Adama Traore, brough on a sub to replace Reed, picked the ball up deep in his own half and drove down the right, feeding Iwobi, who took his time to coolly slot home and send the away fans into raptures.
No one could say we didn’t deserve it. United were second to us all game. It takes us beyond 30 points with 12 games left to play – but more than that, it gives us one of those special Premier League moments that will last a lifetime. You Whites.
What they said
Marco Silva: The players deserve great credit because they understood the plan and executed the plan. It was an open game, we don't change away or at home. This is our way.
Alex Iwobi: This will give us a world of confidence and hopefully kick on. Everyone's emotion is high and we will have to dust down, but it is a confidence boost. It's a win for the memory bank.
Jack Stroudley: Marco Silva once again deserves immense amount of credit. He’s made something out of what felt like a “nothing” season. Four points off Arsenal, a win at OT, a first ever Carabao semi and still in with a shout of a top-half finish. All despite a plethora of off-field problems.
